Crying. Mourning. Desolation. We can think of people in our lives who have been so afflicted by pain that all they could do was cry out for some relief. For some of us, that's how we either were or are now. Suffering has a way of bringing us to our knees. The people of Israel were no different. The year is 586 BC-so a very long time ago! Israel had turned its back on its God, and a result lost the protection He would have given them. They were taken captive by the Babylonians, their place of worship had been destroyed, and the capital city, Jerusalem, was destroyed.

After fifty years, they started to return to their land, but were forever weakened. It was during this time of weakness, despair, and pain that they cried out to God. During and after the exile, God promised that He would set up a king, called "the Messiah" or "the Christ" to rule the nation and restore His rule over all the Earth. Of course, this God who is forever faithful fulfilled this promise.

In about 6BC, a man was born who would fulfill God's promises. He came from the family of David, in fulfillment of God's promise to set David's reign forever. He was also the fulfillment of God's promise to Abraham, because through him God planned to bless all the families of the earth. He would deliver a freedom from slavery more profound than the deliverance of Israel's past; He would establish peace and justice throughout the earth. This man is unlike any man you have ever met! However, this man was no mere man.

As we mentioned, God existed as a Trinity; a community in unity. He is a being unlike us: three Persons in one being. And before anything existed, God the Father planned to send God the Son into the world to save it. So the Son became a man, and walked among us. The baby born in the town of Nazareth was none other than the eternal God who made all things. Allow us to introduce you to Jesus.
